In the framework of his PH. D. work, supervized by both Jacky EVEN et Philippe BOURGES (CEA/LLB) and co-supervized by Antoine LÉTOUBLON, Afonso FERREIRA has leaded, by means of coherent neutron and Brillouin scattering spectroscopy techniques a thorough analysis of acoustic properties of four lead “halide perovskites” compounds. This study allowed obtaining for the first time the complete set of elastic constants of these compounds. It revealed that the whole set of shear elastic constants are particularly weak. Moreover, the two iodide compounds, crucial for photovoltaic applications, exhibit low compressive strength. Halide perovskites have been indeed on the forefront of scientific news since the last five years, as basic compounds for photovoltaic cells, and now exhibit efficiency records for low cost thin films PV cells. A better knowledge of their intrinsic properties will allow the scientific community and Foton-OHM team to offer new routes for improvement of devices and of their reliability.
