The scientific program of the unit aims to contribute to the development of knowledge in Photonics, one of the six key enabling technologies highlighted by Europe.
The main scientific objectives are to develop research covering aspects "physical layer" of the field of optical telecommunications. It is an interdisciplinary research being at the intersection of physics (photonics and materials) and ICST (telecommunications systems, sensor networks)
The project covers the skills chain from upstream (physics, materials, technologies) to applications (components, functions and devices, systems). The spectrum covered is very broad, ranging from materials to optical transmissions. It concerns many sectors of applications (telecommunications, the Living, health, environment, defense, industry) by the development of topics emerging from research results in the field purely "Telecom"
